When the humanitarian organization Mercy Ships needed to renew the aging freshwater system aboard its hospital ship Africa Mercy, GF stepped in through the OneGF Impact Fund and donated USD 120'000 worth of GF Flow Solutions to fully renovate the ship’s freshwater infrastructure, which is essential for surgical operations, sterilization, and daily life on board.
Mercy Ships operates hospital vessels that provide free, life-changing surgeries and medical care in underserved regions, primarily in Africa. Reliable access to safe water is critical to keeping the floating hospital operational and mission-ready.
What makes this project unique is the strong employee engagement behind it. Initiated by Eric Arenas, Head of Sales Marine Americas, colleagues from three countries and different functions quickly formed a true OneGF team. Six GF employees contributed their expertise, product knowledge, and even personal paid time off to support the installation in Durban’s shipyard. Their hands-on involvement reduced external labor needs and ensured a seamless and efficient renewal of the system.
Beyond installation, the team provided product training to the ship’s crew, enabling long-term maintenance and sustainable operation of the system. After successful pressure testing on both decks, the project was officially completed from GF’s side, ensuring the continued provision of safe and reliable freshwater on board the Africa Mercy.
This project demonstrates OneGF at its best: leadership support, cross-border collaboration, and employee engagement creating meaningful impact far beyond business.
